Functions
The Corvo Island Council is a consultative body for civic and institutional participation, whose main mission is to promote dialogue between local entities and to represent the interests of the island’s population.
The Island Council is responsible for:
- Providing opinions on matters relevant to the economic, social, and cultural development of the island;
- Issuing opinions on plans, programmes, and initiatives with an impact on the territory;
- Monitoring and reflecting on regional and municipal public policies affecting Corvo;
- Promoting coordination between public entities, associations, and other local stakeholders;
- Contributing to the identification of the needs and priorities of the Corvo community;
- Strengthening civic participation and the involvement of citizens in decision-making processes.
Members
The Corvo Island Council includes representatives from various entities and sectors of the community, namely:
- Mayor of the Municipality of Corvo – Marco Paulo Alves Silva
- Representatives of the Municipal Assembly – Carina André Pimentel Rodrigues, Carla Milagres Freitas Fraga, Orlando Mendes Emílio, Gregory Luís Domingos
- Representatives of the business sector – Vera Helena Avelar Câmara, João Carlos da Costa Machado
- Representatives of labour unions – Bruno José Santos Ribeiro; Cláudia Maria Mendes Fraga Rodrigues
- Representatives of the Corvo Agricultural Association – Deolinda Maria Cardante da Cunha Reis
- Representatives of private social solidarity institutions – Marco Paulo Bettencourt Pereira
