The Island of Corvo stands out for its valuable natural heritage, characterised by volcanic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and a remarkable state of environmental preservation.

The most iconic feature is the Caldeirão, an imposing volcanic crater that occupies much of the island’s centre. Within it lie lagoons and small volcanic formations that create a unique setting, where geology and nature blend harmoniously. The vegetation is characterised by the presence of Azorean endemic species, adapted to humid conditions and the oceanic climate. Natural pastures coexist with areas of spontaneous vegetation, contributing to the island’s ecological balance and supporting the continuity of traditional practices.

Another key aspect of Corvo’s natural heritage is the environmental quality of its territory. Low urban pressure and the strong environmental awareness of the local community have helped preserve ecosystems and maintain the authenticity of the landscape.
